Acupuncture For Hair Loss

Hair Regrowth And Acupuncture?

Do you suffer from thinning hair? Have you heard that acupuncture can help stop thinning hair? Well, the truth is… it can. But probably not the way you think. You see, acupuncture falls into a category called “Energy Medicine”. Acupuncture and acupressure are Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies. These therapies can help improve blood circulation, lymph drainage, and nerve energy flow.

For someone with thinning hair, this can be quite helpful. You see, more often than not, hair loss or thinning hair is the result of DHT (Dyhidrotestosterone). In both men and women, the body converts testosterone to DHT when testosterone interacts with an enzyme in our bodies called 5 Alpha-Reductase. DHT hinders hair growth by binding to the androgen receptors of the hair follicles and preventing nutrients in the blood from getting into the follicle root.

The hair follicle slowly starves, growing thinner and smaller with each hair growth cycle, because the DHT prevents your hair follicles from drawing nutrients from the blood that is circulating to your follicles. Acupuncture and acupressure can help improve the volume of blood that is circulating to the scalp and to the follicles. And by stimulating certain liver and kidney pressure points, these therapies can also improve the quality and purity of the blood that is circulating to the follicles.

But Acupuncture & Acupressure Alone Are Not Enough

However, other natural therapies are necessary in order to reduce DHT production in your body, and remove DHT from the follicle cell receptors. Once this is achieved, acupuncture and/or acupressure can be used to dramatically increase blood flow to the scalp. This increase of oxygen-rich blood–from which the follicles can extract nutrients once the DHT is removed– is what causes weak and dormant follicles to receive the nourishment it needs to begin growing hair again.

And we must not forget that first and foremost, you’ll need to remove the sebum build-up that is typically found on the scalps of men and women with thinning hair. This thick, plaque-like substance is difficult to see with the naked eye, but it blocks the hair pores on the scalp and literally prevents many of your hairs from penetrating the scalp.

That’s why I said at the beginning that Acupuncture can help you regrow hair… BUT… probably not the way you think. For people who are balding or have thinning hair, acupuncture and acupressure can be an extremely effective tool as one part of a more comprehensive, natural approach to overcoming hair loss and achieving hair regrowth. Since acupressure is almost as effective as acupuncture, and you can perform it on yourself as often as you’d like, this might be the better of the two therapies when taking a natural approcah to reversing hair loss.

Other Reasons For Hair Loss

There are also other causes of thinning hair besides DHT, and other considerations that you’ll want to address in order to successfully stop hair loss and regrow your hair. For example, certain hormonal imbalances or vitamin and mineral deficiencies are frequently the underlying cause of hair loss in women, and sometimes in men. Fortunately, the usual suspects, that are most often the cause, are fairly easy to confirm or rule out.
